Learn how to hold and use Chopsticks

How to hold chopsticks: The chopstick is a very handy tool to eat with, cook, and use to pick up anything from a tiny piece of rice to a large piece of meat.

  • Hold the top one between the thumb and the middle and index fingers as you hold a pen.
  • Hold the bottom one between the thumb and the ring finger
  • Move the top chopstick only to pick up food.
Tip: Try to hold chopstick at the end but not to close to the other end which you put it in you mouth.

Note: In Japan, it is impolite to hold chopsticks with five fingers. You should also practice not doing this in a Japanese restaurant.
